      Bio

Wade Hayes was born and raised in Bethel Acres, Oklahoma. His father, Don Hayes, also a professional country music entertainer, inspired him to begin playing music when he was a young child. Trisha, Wade's mother, says there was something about the way her son, as early as the age of two ½, would watch his father when he practiced with his band that told her this was more than a passing fascination for him; and she has certainly been proven right. At the age of fourteen Wade was already playing lead guitar alongside his father.
In 1991 he moved to Nashville to seriously pursue a career in country music. He began recording demo tapes and writing his own material. Eventually he partnered with a songwriter named Chick Rains, who recommended him to Don Cook, a record producer who has produced albums for several country music artists, including Brooks and Dunn.
With Cook's help, Hayes was signed to a record deal with Columbia Records in late 1994. That same year, his debut single, “Old Enough to Know Better,” (written by Hayes and Chick Rains) was released, and by early 1995, it had peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot Country Singles charts. The single was followed by the release of Hayes' debut album, also titled Old Enough to Know Better, which produced three additional top ten singles on the country music charts; "I'm Still Dancing with You", "Don't Stop" and "What I Meant to Say". The album was certified gold and in that same year, Hayes was named Top New Male Vocalist of the Year by the Country Music Association.
In 1996 he released his second album, On a Good Night, and it was also certified gold despite the fact that only one single, the title track, found its way into the top ten of the country music charts.
In 1997, Hayes released a cover of Glen Campbell's song “Wichita Lineman” as the first single for what would be his third album. The album was to have been titled Tore Up from the Floor Up. But when the cover failed to make it into the Top 40, the album was delayed until the release of "The Day That She Left Tulsa (In a Chevy)", which quickly found a spot in the top ten on the country charts. After this song's release, the third album was re-titled When the Wrong One Loves You Right and the Glen Campbell cover was omitted. The title track was released next, followed by "How Do You Sleep at Night" and finally, "Tore Up from the Floor Up". This album produced two more top ten singles for Hayes.
By 2000, he had switched from Columbia Records to Monument Records where Highway and Heartaches was produced. Only three singles were released from the album before Hayes left the label. Then in 2003 he joined forces with the fiddler Mark McClurg to form the duo McHayes. They charted one single. "It Doesn't Mean I Don't Love You," and recorded one unreleased album for Universal South Records. After McHayes disbanded, McClurg rejoined Alan Jackson's road band, and Hayes went on a writing hiatus. He rejoined the music business in 2008, taking a role as lead guitarist and singer in Randy Owens', former Alabama lead singer, road band.
Hayes is now also touring on his own as much as he can to promote his fifth album, Place to Turn Around, which was released in 2009 on his independent label. The album is available via Hayes' website and at live shows. It features eleven songs; nine of them showcase his incredible songwriting skills.
There has been so much written about the shy demeanor of this handsome native of Oklahoma. Wade the person appears to conflict with Wade the entertainer. Off stage he is demure, reserved and soft-spoken while on stage he is anything but! Something magical happens when he picks up a guitar. He is a charismatic singer and songwriter with a natural born gift of being able to express himself, vocally and instrumentally, through his wonderful music.
